Some fractions (1/4, 1/2, and 3/4) automatically switch to a fraction character when you type them (¼, ½, ¾). But others do not (1/3, 2/3, 1/5, etc.).
- To switch to a fraction character, click Insert > Symbols > More Symbols.
- In the Subset drop-down list, click Number Forms and select a fraction.
- Click Insert > Close.
The text won’t look curved until you click outside the box. When you click on it again, it will look like it did before you clicked outside and you can keep editing the text. Also, you will see a pink circle somewhere on the path, and by dragging it you can adjust the curve. You can drag the green circle to rotate the curve. Right-click the edge of the shape or text box. On the shortcut menu, select Format Shape. In the Format Shape pane, click Size/Layout & Properties. Under Text Box, select the option that you want in the Text direction list. The Stacked option is available in PowerPoint and Excel, but not Word. You can change the look of your circle or curve by adding a shape fill or shape effect or changing the shape border. If you want to create a more advanced diagram like overlapping circles, an organizational chart, or a flowchart, you can create a SmartArt graphic instead of drawing each shape manually. By default, a circle or oval is filled. MS Word will show the full height of the text you have in your document when you change the view of your document to outline view. Steps for Microsoft Office Word 2003, Microsoft Word 2002 & Microsoft Word 2000. Go to the View menu/tab; Click on Outline; Steps for Microsoft Office Word 2007. Go to the View menu/tab. So instead, create a half-circle with on outline but filled with your preferred color. I used Basic ShapesPartial Circle here. Then on top of that, draw a half-circle arc using Basic ShapesBlock Arc. Give it no fill, and format the outline to your preferred color and weight. Slide the inside control node toward the outside, creating a line arc.
TIPS:
- To find additional mathematical symbols, click AutoCorrect at the bottom of the Symbol dialog box. Click the Math AutoCorrect tab to see a list of keyboard shortcuts you can type into your document to insert math symbols. Be sure to select the Replace text as you type check box. Depending on where you are in the document, you may need to select the Use Math AutoCorrect rules outside of math regions option.
Microsoft Office 2010 and 2013:
- Place the cursor on the document where you would like to insert a fraction.
- Click on Equation in the upper right.
- Select fraction under the Equation Tools option
- Choose which style fraction you want.
- Insert the numbers into the fraction boxes.
Microsoft Office 2007:
- Go to the 'View' menu tab in MS Word and select 'Toolbars' then 'Customize Quick Access Toolbar'.
- Under 'Choose Commands from' select 'All Commands' from the dropdown menu. Select 'Equation Editor'.
- Drag it and drop it on any place on a toolbar.
- Select your desired fraction type from the resulting drop-down menu. An equation box will appear where your cursor is.
- Type in your desired denominator and numerator in the equation box. Click outside of the box when finished.

Sometimes, linear text doesn’t get the trick done in Microsoft Word. In that situation, you can curve your words, and give them a nice angular bend. This is accomplished through the WordArt feature in Microsoft Word, and it’s pretty easy to wrap your head around. Keep in mind though that bending text is different from giving it a 3-d transformation in Word. Make sure you don’t mix the two up.
Note: Although this tutorial focuses on the process to arch text in word, you can also use it to arch your text in powerpoint.
Step by Step: Arching Your Text in MS Word
1. Open your MS Word document.
2. Write down your text and move the cursor around it.
3. Tap the Insert tab (at the top).
4. Locate and select the arrow underneath WordArt.
5. From the drop-down menu, select your preferred text style.
6. Now, open the format tab (top right).
7. Navigate to the WordArt Styles section and click text effects, represented by a blue and white Capital A.
8. From the drop-down menu, select Transform.
9. Finally, select the curved option to give your text a wicked bend.
you can also change the text’s size or curvature by squeezing the ends (dots) of your curved text, as shown below.
Note: You will notice that the curved options are found in the “Follow Path” section of the Transform submenu. Here, you can choose the circular orientation to bend your words in a circular formation or some other orientations of your choice.
How to Unbend Your Text in Word
If you receive a word document that already has arched text, and you want to give it a more linear formation, here’s what you have to do.
1. Select the arched text.
2. Go to the Format Tab.
3. navigate to text Effects.
4. Select Transform from the drop-down menu.
5. Further, select the none option from the submenu.
Note: You cannot arch your text in Microsoft Word versions older than 2013. Please update your Microsoft office package if you wish to avail the newer WordArt features.
